A Philosophical Marriage on “Honestly”

A married couple with two young children split up because the wife has fallen in love with her Ph.D student.  They share the same lawyer and within 3 weeks, the divorce is final. Ultimately the woman - Agnes Callard - her new husband Arnold, her ex-husband Ben, the two children and ultimately a new sibling live under one roof.  Oh, and the kicker is that they are all professors of philosophy at the University of Chicago. Bari Weiss does an excellent job of parsing out just how all of this came to be and asks the tough and obvious questions the listeners are just as curious about.  Societal norms didn’t inform decisions made, but perhaps Socrates’ and other philosophers’ writings did. Agnes gives relationships a whole new meaning.
