To a New Friend
My Homefronts
I had the good fortune of meeting Romy Neumark, a renowned Israeli journalist and broadcaster based in Cambridge, where she is a Harvard Neiman Fellow and an instructor at Harvard’s Center for Jewish Studies. In this four-part series, Romy follows the founder of Harvard Jews for Palestine through the Gaza war. In episode one, we meet Violet Barron, raised in a Jewish household with grandparents who strongly supported a newly independent Israel. But at Harvard, Violet identifies with the anti-zionist rhetoric on campus and is radicalized over time. Romy’s conversations with Violet, her observations of student activism and her personal journey of navigating two “homefronts” are riveting and often uncomfortable to hear. But that is what makes this podcast incredibly powerful and unique.
